The new album “Shalamrood” by Abdi Behravanfar is a solid Rhythm & Blues based album delivered in Persian. Musically the album is an unyielding presentation of great guitar riffs, strong 12 bar blues R&B arrangements all delivered with raspy, rich vocal presentations that makes the listener feel that they are in a back alley, gritty, smoky blues bar.  On some of songs the electric guitar is put aside for a more folk rock sound of acoustic guitar and harmonica in the spirit of the likes of Neil Young & Dylan

I am sitting in the middle
of a whopper of a whale,
where there's scant illumination,
and the air is still and stale.
My monotonous enclosure
is predominantly gray,
and is surely no location
I would choose to spend my day.

There is no one to converse with

A dog has died

My dog has died.
I buried him in the garden
next to a rusted old machine.

Some day I'll join him right there,
but now he's gone with his shaggy coat,
his bad manners and his cold nose,
and I, the materialist, who never believed
in any promised heaven in the sky
for any human being,
I believe in a heaven I'll never enter.
Yes, I believe in a heaven for all dogdom
where my dog waits for my arrival
waving his fan-like tail in friendship.
