The mud band set up on January 2000. Abdi had thought about setting up a rock band years ago. In 1998 when he returned to Mashad, performed a concert with Saeed Maghoul (drums),Saeed Bayati (Baritone). After that he met different players. At last his idea became true. The band started playing under name of Mud with these members, Abdi (guitar, harmonica and vocal), Ali Baghfar (drums), Navid Arbabian (bass), Saman Rajabi (Keyboards, guitar), and Mohsen Namjoo (setar, vocal).
They played from 10 a.m till 2 p.m at Abdi’s home. In fact the members had a life along with music. Rehearsal, playing, singing and composing was a kind of group experience which the most of it arose from the time situation they were settled in.
After 2 years the MUD band performed at Golestaneh Hall, on December, 13-14 and 15, 2002. Despite the Mud's members were unknown, their performance received greatly and gladly by their audience. The song named “Raftam Sare Kooche” which performed that night was in fact the band's next step for next concert.
The band by using their knowledge tried to attain a form of putting rock and Iranian folk music together, so they experienced covering Classical rock, Blues, country, mixing with Persian songs and Iranian folk styles.
After first concert, Mohsen left the band to peruse a solo career. By leaving him, the Mud music went more toward real rock and its roots in Blues and jazz. It was around this time that Abdi met Mustafa and Mustafa Yavari joined the band as a poet and songwriter. Closeness of his age and his self experience had its effect on group Mud’s songs. Many songs were improvised while rehearsing which became one of Mud’s main features even while playing. During these days Sorush Moghadam was added to the band as a flout player.
Getting permission for a Rock Concert on September 2003, at Helal Ahmar hall, Mud went on stage for second time. Two days before concert Mohsen joined the band. At first night despite of Police presence, Ansar Hezbollah stampede into the saloon to cancel the concert, but the group did not stop and ended it more unitedand .At second and third night, with judge sentence and also uncertain reasons, the concert was stopped by them.
The concert ended with a song named “Vagh Vaghe sag”.
Mud’s next step was recording the single “Vagh Vaghe Sag”. The song got ninth place in Tehran Avenue third Festival. The closeness of the song to real life and the events of those days, were the reasons of recording. Abdi (bass, guitar, vocal), Mohsen (vocal), and Ali Baghfar (drums) played. Recording this song was another experience in playing, singing and composing which was the other factor for making original songs, with combination of Persian sounds and life’s reality.
Despite the mud band was not allowed having any concerts; they played in Birjand. Abdi got back Mashad at second night and Reza Rajabi played guitar instead of him. The member’s were not concentrated in Mud’s music because they played for different bands(pop),so the band became a name with different players and vocals, while playing at Mud’s tableau.
The Talks around and about the band ended to the member's separation for a while.
Later these three members which included, Abdi guitar player, Navid bassist and Mehdi Azizi on drums started rehearsing under the name Mud. During this time, they were invited by Islamic Society of Medical University of Mashad and they performed at Ebne Sina hall.
Mud’s performance beside other bands (Pop) and (Folk music, Mohammad Yeganeh) was a form of real rock which was not familiar to audience that night. That was last performance for Mud Band in Mashad.
Abdi moved to Tehran and lived there two years .During those days, the Mud band collaborated with Mohsen for recording his Album “Toranj” which was released two years later.
In August 2006, Abdi moved to Armenia, he also started producing his first album “Shalamroud”.Navid, Ali, Pouyan Ghandi and MassoudFayyaz. The album’s production lasted for one year. Of course this delay in recording had a great effect on creating real contents which came from Abdi’s experience.
The album was recorded at Studio -1 by Dariush Daneshnia (sound recorder) an old friend of Abdi in Mashad. Being close to the Mud band from the beginning, also his own knowledge, created unique and exciting experiences of quality and techniques in recording. Worthy of mention is the live recording; in brief the closeness to real life which was the main feature of the band. Armenia, summer of 2007, Abdi, Mohsen and Ehsan Zare Gheshlaghi (tombak) performed a new composing of Mud music.
Various orchestration and soul which is formed for a decade, isregistered Mud’s determinate aim.
